Plympton Footballers Cricket Club
The Plympton Footballers Cricket Club was established in 1964, mainly to give the footballers at the club something to do in the off season , hence the name "Plympton Footballers Cricket Club". The club started with a single team in Section Four of the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association, with instant success gaining a premiership and promotion in each of its first three years. The Club competed in Section One of the Association by the start of the 1968/69 season, and since then has never been relegated, winning premierships along the way ensuring the Plympton Footballers Cricket Club is one of the most respected Cricket Clubs in metropolitan Adelaide. The club will field four senior teams in the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association in Sections One, Two, Five and Seven in the 2010/2011 season. There are also three junior teams with our Under 11s and Under 13s competing in the South Central Junior Cricket Association, and our Under 17's in the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association. We currently have 50 senior participants and 40 junior participants of cricket, but reach out much further each week to some 140 members and supporters, as well as the above mentioned playing group through a subscribed email 'Mail-Out' which details Club results, functions and supporters. The Plympton Footballers Cricket Club is run under the Plympton Sports and Recreation Club which caters for other sports including Football and Soccer. The Plympton Sports and Recreation Club bar is also open 7 days a week from around 3 pm on weekdays and 12 noon on weekends, and it is a very friendly relaxed environment. If you are a parent or friend of a playing member we encourage you to join the Plympton Sports and Recreation Club as a social member for a minimal fee.Our junior cricket program promotes learning the fundamentals of cricket while not forgetting that the main aim of cricket is to have a bit of a hit, catch and a bowl. Our objective is to ensure that every player that comes through the Plympton Footballers Cricket Club goes on to play senior cricket at some stage once his junior playing days are over, or in some cases we also encourage junior cricketers to progress through to senior cricket under the guidance of captains and coaches while still playing junior cricket.
